Boat Haven

Had a camera battery to burn so I spent a few hours blissfully lost amongst the ladies awaiting make-overs at the boat haven...

Port Townsend is really a spectacularly beautiful town, rain or shine.

Skydiving with Dad

October 14, 2011 - Skydive Snohomish - 12,000 Feet/Tandem Jump!

Seriously! Did I forget to mention that Pops and I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane?

The idea first took seed when Steve took Dad for a spin in the RV to Harvey Field. I was only going to "accompany" Dad as his ground support but found myself signing away all the rights of my grandchildren's grandchildren in the event my chute and my secondary chute didn't open in time. Really, it's Steve's fault for taking over the ground support position. Thank you Steve!

Dad decided to jump with one leg on and one leg off. That way, when the footage made it back to the amputee support group at the VA Hospital, all his comrades could see that it could be done either way. With or without. He inspires us all!

For those of you wanting to do it, but hesitent ... don't wait. Just do it! I had no idea what to expect but anticipated that my stomach would feel like I was falling forever and ever (which is why I didn't foolishly eat a chili dog before jumping). The floopy-whoopy tummy only happens when you pull the shoot not during the prolonged freefall phase. While free falling you're going so incredibly fast (120 miles per hour) that it feels like you're mounted on the front of the fastest freight train in the world. It's awesome! I giggled all the way down to the ground.

Here's a three minute clip of our jump: http://youtu.be/vNcAO1LmnNI

2012 Whooshing By

Yes, yes ... It's April 10th already. All I can really say is that our taxes are done, the lawn is mowed, and I passed my EMT Class.

In January, I joined the EMT class through East Jefferson Fire Rescue and have pretty much been concentrating on getting through an intense three month knowledge packed course. Wow! I can now follow a single drop of blood through the human heart ... not that I'll ever need that information out in the field. But if I did, I thought it important to mention. All that is left to do before I'm an official EMT is pass the National Exam on Monday. Wish me luck!

Steve is still happily working for Bothell Fire. Once the annexation passes next week (which it WILL ... http://bothellyes.com/) then we anticipate the possibility that he and his crew will be moving into the expanded area (closer to Burgermaster and Gold's Gym). Coincidence? I think not. In his "paid free time" he continues to work as an Apparatus Consultant for EJFR and is currently in the greater town of Brandon, South Dakota on a double engine inspection. In his "free free time" he has started helping complete a biplane at the air museum. I'm probably wrong about the biplane because it's probably a specialized something-or-other ... but it looks something like a biplane or Stearman.

Dad started weekly dialysis this year at the Seattle VA which has given me the opportunity to visit the big city on a regular basis. I truly marvel at how accustomed I've become to living in a quiet little eclectic town and how stressed out driving I-5 can be. I used to "escape" to Seattle for pleasure! On the flipside is the choice of two Dick's Drive In's on the way back to the ferry. Three if I plot creatively.

The Littlebit's celebrated their 3rd and 4th birthdays at the Seattle Children's Museum last month and I look forward to having them come play at Oma's in a few weeks. They've grown in leaps and bounds and I really wish we all lived closer to one another. I'm missing out in a big way.

Renee' finished her quarter with a 3.9 and has an ungodly accumulative GPA that has earned her the attention of several prominent schools and scholarship/grants for completion of her Bachleor's degree. No need to keep fingers crossed with her ... she's been working hard. Chelle is still saving up in Vegas though getting super homesick. We're ready for her to return home for more than just a visit! Amanda recently moved to Eugene and finishing up all her many degrees.  She's also taken up bike riding and has some awesome upcoming cross-country events.

I'm still keeping the photography going but it definitely took a back seat during the EMT class. After National Exams are done, I should be back in full swing. The only difference is remembering when to pull out the stethoscope and when to pull out the flash.
